    1. Dont be silly you dont need to sandblast it. A stiff steel wire brush or coarse scitchbrite, dont want to damage it.

  1. This guy is supposed to be an “experienced Numismatist” from South Africa (I know because I’m a South African Numismatist) and I keep telling him to stop with this but he just doesn’t give up, for the internet views I guess

    1. @Benjamin Wiese some of them are worth a lot, if it’s uncirculated Mandela coin it’s worth a couple hundred rand and other R5 from the mint can go to a few thousand rand

    1. THERE’S NO RECOVERY FROM FORM THIS MESS. THIS CHANNEL SHOULD BE USING THESE VIDEOS ON WHAT NOT TO DO. I HAD TO BLOCK THERE COMMENTS FROM ME, THEY WOULDN’T LET UP TELLING HOW MUCH BETTER IT MADE THE COINS & I WAS A WACK JOB! BLA BLA BLA!! LOL HEY I MIGHT BE A LITTLE WAKY BUT I KNOW WHAT NOT TO DO! LOL

  2. Easy to see the distress in your reaction. I remember going to a house where they had some common lincolns as it turns out, but they cleaned them with copper cleaner as I drove to look at them. Told them, spend em.

  3. I just died a bit on the inside. This hurts my soul! 😣 why do people do this!!! You can clearly see all the scratches they put in it 🤦🏽

  4. Well, a cheap sand blaster is about $359. An air compressor strong enough to push it, another $600. That puts a bit of a damper on any coin premiums, especially when you’re already getting a 90% loss. So yeah, a tooth brush is probably more economical.

  5. I saw this video the other day and it hurt me. The comments were even worse. Everyone was excited about how they can go clean their coins now😭

  6. Rob Holsen is the coin washer at the Westin St. Francis Hotel, and perhaps the only coin washer on Earth. He said the hotel on Union Square started washing its coins in 1934 when the general manager noticed a woman’s white gloves getting dirty. Now, nearly 80 years later, the tradition somehow survives.

  7. Not everyone likes dirty coins. It’s your property clean way. If I buy a 20 dollar coin and clean it then making it worth 1 dollar but had 20 dollars worth of fun. I say the value is increased. However I agree the resale will be less.

    1. And if you sell it, some lucky person will have a rare coin they got cheap, and if they keep it, it will get some tarnish over time.
