Junk Silver Haul – Key Dates Found – This is Why I Buy Constitutional!
I went to my silver dealer and purchased all of his available Junk Silver. Three bags of silver full of Walking Liberty Half Dollars, Ben Franklin Half Dollars, Barber Half Dollars, and all types of other Silver Quarters and Silver Dimes!
Knowing that he rarely picks through them, I decided to buy them all in hopes of maybe adding a few upgrades to my album, or possibly scoring a better date or two. I did not expect to find so many coins (including old Silver Half Dollar Commemoratives, some better date Washington Silver Quarters, or even a few RARE Barber Liberty Half Dollars and a rare Mercury Dime that I could add to my coin collection and coin albums in this purchase…
In this video, I will search through all the old Silver coins from the bags. I will be looking for key dates, semi key dates, upgrades, and of course and varieties within the years I hunt. Also, he gave me a bag of old copper coins at Face Value which yielded a few good finds as well!
Hopefully you all enjoy this video!

Where can you find people who sell junk silver or stuff similar to this? Any help is appreciated your videos are sick
Hey rob anyway I can buy a few of these bags from you ? Or your dealer I’ve never seen those prices for so much silver ! Or am I missing something anyways thanks for the great video my friend !
9999 LLC look o look
Where do i find junk silver deals like this? That would be the greatest junk silver purchase of my life.
The grading process on the barber halves is a difficult call, because they go from G1 to G9 before going into fine condition. But a cut across the face of a G4 condition coin, makes it a G2. Studying to be a certified grader is definitely involved.
Definitely a good video Rob!!
Why do they grade different than normal coins?
@Trump 2020 it’s because of the way they were designed. If you notice the wearing patterns are from the edge in, rather than from the relief out. Take for example the 1900, its a popular coin, because it’s turn of the century coin. It’s known feature is the strong strike, a true gem. It’s amazing that edge wears first. The best you will find is a MS67 $25000 and are worth 5x that of the MS66 $9000. However the quality gems are not easy to find. But because the edges wears so badly it’s common to find a good condition coin 1 in 5000 within G4 condition $30.
I am always so jealous when I see all of that silver!! Looks like too much fun.
Absolutely amazing hunt! Crazy finds especially that barber half and IHP’s and large cents at face value!
As far as I am concerned I think this was the best numismatic tutorial video I have ever seen! Thanks Rob. I could have lasted a lot longer. The information was fast and furious but just right to follow your thought process!
Excellent video, Rob! Nice seeing the old silver finds and the coppers. Stay Safe and Healthy
Beautiful score Rob. Always fun watching the junk buys produce treasures!
I was at a gun show years ago that had other kinds of vendors, some of which were coin dealers and I was friendly with one. I told him that somebody there had a bowl full of Indian head pennies for sale at a dollar each and that I found an 1872. He asked if I bought it and I told him that I didn’t because there was some wear on the coin. He insisted that I go find it because even in the shape it was in it was a $60 coin. I found it, bought it and showed him and he immediately appraised it at $60. I still have that one.
Awesome story brother! Great pick up too!
1870’s Indian head cents are always a good find. To date the only 1800s coin I have found metal detecting was an 1871 penny with the less valuable but still expensive bold N variety. Best part was, nearby was a 1906 v nickel and the lot had already been detected, high discrimination let’s you miss these things, same with a nearby house that had wheats and silver rosies in the ground.
I found a 1890 penny in change when I was 7
I just looked at my coin collection last night that my Grandfather gave to me. I haven’t looked at it since I was 10 which was 40 years ago. I found a real nice 1863 Indian Head in there as well as over 450 real nice condition wheat pennies. Not sure if there is any value or not. I was more interested in the silver coins when I started looking thru everything.
I can’t believe you got that copper bag at face value, that’s insane. Cool finds in there.
Where do you findnd the bags of coins
@Cray.z.ChrisTv under that tree
Love seeing the early coins regardless of condition or value…I don’t have any constitutional coins but love collecting none the less…. thanks Rob 👍 awesome video brother😁
Awesome video. In these longer videos you tend to take longer to explain certain coins, which im not complaining at all, I rather enjoy the longer videos than short and sweet ones. After seeing your videos 2 years ago, you got me into coin collecting and these videos help alot to know what to look out for weather its silver or copper.
Love your channel, Rob. Just my opinion, but the Benji’s may be in capsules because they were the nicest, highest grade that collector could afford. I own a few lower grade but fairly expensive coins (’80CC, ’94S Morgans to name a couple) that while not worth a fortune mean a lot to me and I don’t want them to be more damaged or worn that they already are.
Awesome hunt, Rob. Congrats on the fantastic scores!
You sure did pick up a lot of nice constitutional coins. That SLQ was in good shape. My favorite coins were the Mercury dimes. I look forward to seeing the submission results of the 1941 P, D and S Mercury dimes. Great video.
I’m so into this stuff! I get exited about all of it. It’s a Barber yess, it’s a seated Liberty yess, it’s a Merc yessss! 😂 I find myself thinking it’s all better than junk! I can’t help myself!
The junk silver hunts are always interesting… I’d bet most of us don’t have the discretionary income or the connections to invest as you do, Rob. Thanks so much for bringing us along, educating us and entertaining us with your excellent buys!
Hello. Out of curiosity, where can o e buy bags like that in Las Vegas?
Just found you recently – and I admit that even after 30 years of pretty hard core collecting and study – I usually learn at least one new thing from you almost every time I watch one of your vids !! You are a credit to the hobby and I subscribed – you make learning fun as well – thanks for the work you share with us !!
What a great video! I love seeing someone make a major score on a junk silver purchase! Kudos to you and good luck to you in the future. I am subscribing to your channel. Cheers.
I understand you saying “nothin’ special” when handling old silver and copper commons. But man, they sure look special to me and they exude history and stories. Thanks for the video. Loved it!
The “Magic coin” that you found is just a double facer coin. It is used for flipping so you always get heads. It’s made up of two coins; one was hollowed out to epoxy/glue the other in. the outer coin is called a shell and the inner coin is milled down on the outside edges and the inner face to fit inside the shell. Which means that the weight that you weighed it at is probably 99% the true weight of the coin.
