PCGS Unboxing #4 – Graded Coins Found Coin Roll Hunting and Others
In this video, I will reveal the grading results of my coins that I found either coin roll hunting, through junk silver purchases, or have had in my collection – through my submission to PCGS.
5 of the coins submitted were found from coin roll hunting bank boxes and 3 were found through junk silver purchases (acquired through either cherry-picking LCS Shops or Silver Dealers).
Here's the Links to the videos of some of the coins featured in this video:
2015 Homestead Quarter:
1929 S Buffalo Nickel:
1943 S War Nickel:
1886 and 1883 O Morgan Dollars (VAMs):
1901 Indian Head Cent:
Not sure which Nickel hunt yielded the 1959 D and which Junk Silver video I found the 1883 CC Morgan.
I hope you enjoyed this video and found it informative. I will be doing more videos like this of more of my great finds while roll hunting Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, Half Dollars and Dollar Coins.
Keep hunting and good luck!
They're still out there for us to find!

Unbelievable that they would send a perfect coin back with no legitimate reason, I say crack it and send it somewhere else. PCGS has lost their minds.
Email sent about re-grading
Jonathan Meyer LOL
Was looking so forward to you getting a great grade on that IHP.
Rob – I think there’s a misunderstanding about discovery coins. You need to send them to Wexler or CONECA. They’ll tell you if it’s a new variety. Unless that variety goes into the Cherrypickers guide, PCGS and NGC won’t put it on the slab. Anacs will accept the letter from Wexler or Coneca and will put ‘discovery coin’ on the slab, but NGC and PCGS won’t even look at it before charging you.
No matter what – that is a phenomenal IHC. Something that merits display – even if “questionable “. Have a great week!
They are probably too amazed, I would submit it to NGC
Probably jealous and didn’t want to give him the satisfaction
Ok. THAT just blows my mind. I 100% disagree with the 1901 IHP being a questionable color. I would say crack it open and send it to NGC. There is NO way that this is a questionable color.
Same thought mate. I really don’t think that is a questionable color at all.
@Nandi Collector I don’t think it is a questionable color either…..crack the case open Rob and submit it to NGC and that is not even close to being a questionable color…..it just looks like someone took good care of that coin
Crack it open and send it back
The 1901 is mind blowing. With Morgan’s, they can be 100 different tones. They get graded. How is copper any different? Surely there are several shades they haven’t seen. If it hasn’t been cleaned, what’s the issue?
@Eric Rollings no clue…
Unbelieveable on the IHP. Makes me question PCGS. Sorry Rob. It’s like it was struck yesterday. Send it to NGC instead.
WOW! Crack that sucker open and re-send it to ngc or another company. I haven’t been liking how harsh PCGS has been grading a bunch of peoples coins over the past few months and this for sure tops it.
I’d crack it and see what NGC says I’d say. PCGS is scared too decide what to grade it at. Go for it Rob!
I think you should resubmit the 1901 IHC.If it had been submitted by one of their big set registry people it would have received a grade. All of the coins are great and ones that a lot of us wish to have found. Thank you for sharing.
Hey Rob, I totally understand why you’re loyal having your coins graded by PCGS, but if you’re wanting the more forgiving grades on some of those MS62 or questionable colored coins, maybe try getting them graded by NGC. To be fair, they have very skilled graders too.
Those ‘slabbing’ clowns don’t know what grading is! They use XF, when it should be EF – there is NO such grade as XF, I own a ‘Little Red Book of U.S coins by R.S.Yeoman’, and they use grade EF! This grade is Extremely Fine – there is NO such grade called Extra Fine! I’m British, and I see ‘Mint State this, Mint State that’ – what a load of rubbish. If a coin is Mint, then its correct grade is UNCIRCULATED. If a coin is Mint with Full Lustre, its correct grade is BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED, it’s as simple as that. A coin is either Mint, or it isn’t. As for the people who CLEAN them…
You could get into a time machine, travel back to 1901 and get a fresh IHC from the mint, come back to present, submit it to PCGS and get questionable color.
Rob,
That extra bit on the H in Homestead is what machine doubling actually looks like on incuse lettering. The rest of that is original design, lighting, or die deterioration. Wexler and Wiles both have examples of machine doubling that looks like what you were concerned about, and they labeled it machine doubling. Valuable hub doubling on incuse letters decreases their size, and none are known for quarters. You have to look at the incuse lettering of certain 2013 and 2015 cent DDRs to see what it is supposed to look like. Also, PCGS won’t label any variety, period, unless it’s in the CPG. ANACS won’t even label a variety unless Wexler verifies it.
Normally I have a pretty bad case of crackslabophobia, but I would consider getting a second opinion from NGC on this one. Although, I think Seeker did that with an IHP, and it came back as cleaned from NGC vs his original questionable color from PCGS. So, it could potentially go from bad to worse. In conclusion: I am not helpful. 😋
I was in a coin shop when a customer (who knows his stuff) brought in a box from PCGS to unbox with everyone. Many of the coins were deemed cleaned. Along with the owner, another owner and myself we could not find anything wrong with them.
‘Slabbers’ are clowns, only after your money! They know nothing about true grading.
PCGS did the same thing to me on my 1910-S penny. I’ve had that coin for 40 years, finally submitted it, and got the same “not gradable” BS. It was given to me in change at an ice cream parlor when I was 19. I stuck it away in my coin collection, untouched for 40 years. $50 dollar loss, in my opinion.
‘Slabbing’ is a CON!
Did they say why it was “non gradable”?
I’ve learned so much about grading just from these reveal videos. Can’t wait to see the next one.
I would definitely submit it to NGC. It seems like PCGS was giving you a hard time on this coin and the variants. Side note: NGC’s holders are way more attractive, anyway!
Overall I prefer PCGS.
However for damaged/questionable coins, I like to send them to NCS/NGC.
I am a silver trader, but lately I have been getting into coins more with more junk silver I get that have been in good shape and started branching out into pennies and nickels.
Some deserve grading. Some really don’t but will anyway if they’re for my own collection.
That Indian head… I’D definitely send it to NGC (yeah I know it’s a year later just offering my opinion)
Thanks brother – I agree!
I read that NGC is generally the go to for grading coins with PCGS coming in a close 2nd. I love how both slabs look and feel both companies are well respected within the industry. Can you elaborate on your choice of PCGS over NGC
That Indian Head Cent was one of my favorite coins I seen you find coin roll hunting. It broke my heart to see it designated ungradeable. I would break it out and send to NCG, and thank you for all you great and informative videos!
Dang! Finding a full-steps nickel while coin-roll hunting is amazing! (value is $200 now) And wow – that 1883-CC DMPL was incredible! (value is $625 now) And dang it again on that IHC!… Another great video!
